Exhibiting Theatre

節目簡介

If exhibition is a static, spatial-temporal viewing of art,

while theatre is a live performance here and now,

can we combine the two into a living sculpture exhibition?

Given the alternation and replacement of these art-viewing contexts,

“artwork” reclaims its “live” presence through the artist’s body

as we explore an alternative understanding of the showing/viewing relationship.

To lift the curtain for the induction of an up-and-coming performing arts company COMMON GROUND, contemporary dance artist Kenny Leung and curator Elaine Ngan collaborate for the first time to experiment with the concept of “exhibiting theatre”, igniting a dialogue between exhibition and theatre that features drama actors and dancers.

Transforming the black box theatre into an exhibition space in which performers’ bodies are the artworks on display, Body Codes II: Performscape showcases the works by 6 performing artists including dancers Blue Ka Wing, Kenny Leung, and Ivan Chan, and actors Kwok Chui Yi, Anson Chan, and Benny Mok. By juxtapositioning their works in parallel with each another, the exhibition/show presents the artists’ exploration of their own body and reveals the stories of individuals setting in this ever-changing cityscape. You can create your own theatre experience by enjoying the arts at your own pace and viewing distance.
